Beit Aharon, on Torah and service of God, by Rebbe Aharon Perlow of Karlin. Brody: Moshe Leib Harmelin, 1875. First edition.
Copy with wide margins, in original leather binding, with gilt decorations and original color endpaper.
At the end of the book is a lengthy manuscript booklet (32 pages) with letters and various selections by the author, Rebbe Aharon (the second) of Karlin, and teachings of rebbes of the Karlin dynasty: his father, Rebbe Asher (the first) and his grandfather Rebbe Aharon HaGadol (some are printed in Yalkut Divrei Aharon, Jerusalem 1962, with some textual variants). The booklet includes 366 paragraphs of practices and sayings of Rebbe Aharon HaGadol of Karlin and his descendants, selections by "the Tzaddik of Stolin"; unpublished supplements to Beit Aharon, including intentional omissions; errata to Beit Aharon; addenda to letters, including letters relating to the synagogue in Tiberias and copyings of sharp letters regarding the Sanz-Sadigura controversy, a consolation letter addressed to the sons of R. Yisrael of Ruzhin upon their father's passing, and more.
The last page of the manuscript concludes with an "order of psalms of Chanukah, 1869" (Karlin Chassidim customarily return to the synagogue after lighting the candles in their home for an intense recital of Tehillim; the present list is slightly different than that printed in Karlin siddurim from 1922 onwards).
Ownership inscriptions and stamps on title pages of "Avraham Yaakov Freilechman" of Tiberias. Stamps of his wife's grandfather "Yisrael Dov Heller" – R. Yisrael Dov Heller (ca. 1841-1899), a distinguished member of the Karlin community of Tiberias in the 19th century. Born in Tiberias, where he served as shochet; traveled seven times to the court of the Beit Aharon and other Karlin rebbes. He was a holy man and wonder-worker.
The book begins with Azharot Kodesh, and with records of Chassidic practices from the rebbes of the Karlin-Stolin dynasty.
The renowned Shabbat song, Yah Echsof Noam Shabbat by R. Aharon HaGadol of Karlin is printed on leaf 6 (p. 11).
