Collection of Jerusalem Photographs – Peter Bergheim (1813-1895) – Second Half of the 19th Century

Large and impressive collection of over 70 high-quality photographs by Peter Bergheim, most of them signed. [Second half of the 19th century].
The collection includes: important sites throughout Jerusalem – the Dome of the Rock and the Temple Mount, Damascus Gate, Jaffa Gate, Zion Gate, and the Golden Gate; Absalom’s Tomb, the Tomb of King David, the Tower of David, alleys of the Old City, the Tombs of the Kings, Abraham’s Oak, and more; as well as cities and sites across the Holy Land, including Mar Saba Monastery, Hebron, Jaffa, Ramla, Mount Tabor, Nazareth, Tiberias, the Jordan River, and others.
Most of the photographs are signed by the photographer, mounted on cardboard, and titled (on the cardboard mounts).
Peter Bergheim (1813-1895), among the leading photographers of the Holy Land in the 19th century; a German-born Jewish convert, Bergheim worked as a merchant and banker in Jerusalem, and was a proprietor of a photographic studio in the Christian Quarter of the Old City.

Over 70 photographs. Size varies: approx. 19X24 cm to 31X25 cm. Overall good condition.
