Imaginary map of Jerusalem based on the 1604 reconstruction by Jesuit scholar Juan Bautista Villalpando. The map depicts the Temple Mount raised on massive substructures, the royal palace ("the City of David"), city streets, walls, and other architectural elements.
Engraved for one of the American editions of the works of Flavius Josephus, translated by George Henry Maynard. Caption at top reads: "Engraved for Maynard’s new translation of the works of Josephus".
Engraved map: 36.5X45 cm (printed on large folded sheet; verso blank). Good condition. Creases and minor blemishes. Mounted.
