Esther Scroll in Wooden Case – Jerusalem, Early 20th Century

Esther Scroll, rolled on “Atzei Chaim” and housed in a wooden case. Jerusalem, ca. early 20th century.
Ink on parchment; ink and carved inscriptions on wood; turned and carved wood.
Scroll comprises three parchment sheets sewn one to the other, with 30 columns of text, 20 lines per column.
Housed in a round wooden case, shaped like a Torah scroll case, and rolled on a pair of “Atzei Chaim”. The two doors of the case are inscribed with verses and blessings, dated 1888 (however, the parchment and script are characteristic of the early 20th century).
Parchment height: 9.5 cm. Good condition. Minor stains. Height of case (incl. rollers): ca. 20 cm. Long crack along the back of the case. One roller handle broken at lower end (fragment enclosed). Holes for locking mechanism, lacking original clasp (new cord added for closure).
