The homilies in this book (on the Torah portions) were collected here for the first time by the disciples of
R. Shaul Morteira (1696-1760), a rabbi in the Spanish-Portuguese community in Amsterdam, preacher and author, disciple of R. Yehudah Aryeh of Modena and teacher of R. Moshe Zacuto.
Signature on title page, in Italian script: "David Chaim Piazza" (also signs with his initials).
Ownership inscriptions on title page (somewhat truncated): "Given to me as a gift by… R. Yosef Sultan of… Tunis, Wednesday, 20th Av, 1887, here [Sou]k Ahras… [Levi?] Assoulin".
