The present book is an anthology comprising four central works and several additional smaller works, printed here for the first time: "Ohalei Tam" – responsa by R. Tam ibn Yachya; Derech Tamim, glosses on the Rif and his commentators by R. Tam ibn Yachya and his son R. Gedaliah ibn Yachya (including glosses by R. Betzalel Ashkenazi, R. Yitzchak Luria, and R. Avraham Treves Tzarfati); Temim De'im, rulings, commentaries and Hasagot on the Rif by R. Avraham son of David of Posquières (the Raavad); Klalei Shmuel by R. Shmuel Sirilio; and Hagahot Sifra copied by the editor R. Binyamin Mutal; and several additional minor works.
The editor of the book, R. Binyamin Mutal, was a Torah scholar of Constantinople. He edited and published several other works.
Signature on title page: "Eliezer de Toledo" – signature of R. Eliezer de Toledo (1770-1848), Rabbi of Constantinople and leading Torah scholar of Turkey, author of Responsa Mishnat Rabbi Eliezer (Thessaloniki-Izmir, 1852-1872).
Additional inscription (crossed out): "Belongs to… R. Shlomo Camundo, may be steady like the sun and dwell on high". R. Shlomo Camundo was a prominent and wealthy figure from Constantinople, in addition to being a Torah scholar. He authored the works Ben Meshek and Naharot Damesek (both printed in Thessaloniki, 1802). Two letters addressed to him by the Noda BiYehudah were published in Beit Aharon VeYisrael, 37 (X, 1), pp. 7-10.
Handwritten inscriptions on last leaf: "This is my book, Yosef HaKohen", and more. Several glosses to leaves of book.
114; 120; 94; 55, 57-66 leaves. Leaf 56 of last sequence lacking. Leaves 48-49 of last sequence bound out of order, after leaf 41 (leaf 49 foliated as 50). 29 cm. Fair condition. Stains, including dark dampstains and traces of former dampness, with mold stains. Wear and creases to margins of some leaves. Worming in many places, affecting text. Tears and open tears to title page and other leaves, affecting text in several places. Title page partially detached. New binding.
