A medal awarded to the builders of the Hejaz Railway. The Ottoman Empire, 1900.
Obverse: a train, the Tughra of Abdul Hamid II and the Hijri year 1318 (1900).
The laying of the Hejaz railway began in 1900 at the behest of the Sultan Abdul Hamid II. The railway was inaugurated in 1908. It ran from Damascus in Syria to El-Medina in Hejaz; a branch line from Haifa to the Syrian town of Dara'a went through Palestine.
Diameter: 30 mm. Pierced for hanging.
