Two Preference Share Certificates issued by "Bank Hathya Limited, " filled in by hand, marked at the bottom with the inked stamp of the bank, and with the personal signatures of the directors and the secretary. One of the certificates is hand signed by Rabbi Chaim Pesachowitz.
"Bank Hathya" was established in the early 1930s by Rabbi Chaim Pesachowitz, whose communist ideology earned him the nickname "the Red Rabbi." The bank operated out of a small apartment on Ben Yehuda Street in Jerusalem. As a condition for approving loans, it demanded that potential customers conduct a discussion regarding communism and religion with "the Red Rabbi."
Two certificates, approx. 25X25 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Few creases. Fold lines. Few minor tears to edges, and small holes at junctions of folds.
