Four dishes, products of Canaan metalsmiths. Safed, Palestine / Israel, [prior to 1948 / ca. 1948].
Wood; brass, cast and turned; copper, cast and turned.
1. Wooden bowl with brass handles on either side. Each handle in form of pair of salamanders. Marked (etched, on back, Hebrew) "Canaan, Safed, Product of Palestine," and (English) "Made in Palestine." Diameter (including handles): 27 cm.
2. Deep ashtray. Inscription (on rim, in relief, in Hebrew): "Gift of Palestine"; and (in English): "Palestine." At center, medallion bearing a depiction of the biblical prophetess Deborah, after a design by Ze'ev Raban. Marked on back of bowl (in Hebrew): "Canaan, Safed"; and (in English): "Hand Made Palestine." Diameter: 13.5 cm.
3. Deep ashtray. On rim, in relief, in Hebrew: "Souvenir from soldiers under your care, December 1948." At center, medallion bearing a depiction of the biblical Jacob and Rachel, after a design by Ze'ev Raban. Marked on back of bowl (in Hebrew): "Canaan, Safed"; and (in English): "Made in Israel." Diameter: 13.5 cm.
4. Pair of wood and brass candlesticks. Marked on bottom (in Hebrew): "Canaan, Safed"; and (in English): "Made in Israel." Diameter: 16.5 cm.
