Upright Hanukkah lamp. When viewed from the front, the five figures, labeled "The Five Maccabean Brothers" (Hebrew), namely the five sons of Mattathias the Hasmonean, conceal most of the candleholders arranged behind them. The servant light is positioned below in the center, attached to the front of the main shaft of the lamp. Inscribed (Hebrew) horizontally on circular base: "Greek [soldiers] did gather [to wage war] against me" (from the liturgical poem Ma'oz Tzur).
This Hanukkah lamp is based on a particularly large model (today housed in the museum of the Spertus Institute in Chicago), originally created in the early 20th century by sculptor Benno Elkan.
Height: 16 cm. Width: 18 cm. Good condition.
