Kashkul – Beggar's Bowl – Iran – With Images and Inscriptions

Kashkul (beggar's bowl), [apparently Iran, 19th century].
Sheet brass, repoussé, punched, and engraved.
Decorated container, designated for alms collection, of the type characteristically used by Sufi Dervishes who subsisted on alms collection alone. Surface densely adorned with verses, vegetal and geometric patterns, and scenes borrowed from the Persian tradition.
Length: 24 cm. Width: 14 cm. Height: 10 cm. No shoulder chain. Minor warping and fractures.
