Fish-shaped Amulet / Amuletic Saucer – Near East
Fish-shaped amulet and an amuletic saucer, both with Hebrew inscriptions. [Neasr East, first half of 20th century].
Copper, engraved; White metal, cut and engraved.
1. Amuletic saucer. [Iraq?]. Flat saucer with scalloped rim. At center, engraved image of scorpion and Hebrew inscription "Mazal," encompassed by circles with initials of verses for protection and defense. Diameter: 12 cm.
2. Fish-shaped amulet. Engraved Hebrew inscriptions: protective verses, names of G-d, and "Incantation against the Evil Eye." Maximum dimensions: 16X8.5. Suspension ring. Additional ring missing.
